There are six key skills in Language Acquisition, namely – Literature, Grammar, Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking.

This subject focuses on only the first skill as two other subjects strengthen the remaining skills, (for Grammar, Reading, Writing & Listening) and (for Speaking).

The English Literature curriculum at Apple Grove School is one of the richest, and your child will have the chance to study all important periods of English Literature.

The curriculum provides a sequenced plan of study, which includes the finest literary works of the most celebrated English Authors (including Nobel Laureates). The carefully selected works – both in prose & poetry, helps our students develop an appreciation of the nature of language and literature, of the many influences on language and literature, and of its power and beauty.

To further develop the habit of reading fine literature and appreciating English Literature as an Art form, work of an International Author in the form of a Novel is made an integral part of the Literature syllabus & class lectures.

The completion of the Apple Grove English programme builds oral and written communication skills, as well as the analytical skills necessary for university work.

The course is carefully curated to include the finest literary works in Hindi Literature. It is given quite a lot of emphasis considering that it is the First / Native language of all the students of the school.

The curriculum does not restrict itself to the prescribed course books alone and goes much beyond them. The intent is to offer students rich exposure to the best works in Hindi Literature.

The science curriculum encouragees students to undertake mandatory research, experiment & observatory projects. It aims to enhance the independent & collaborative investigation of issues. It is important that the course must help children explore the connections between science and everyday life.

As a learning objective the course aims to develop critical thinking skills, a sense of scientific inquiry & thinking creatively about research & design.

As part of the syllabus, students learn the methods of identification of assumptions and alternative explanations. This curriculum is designed to give a foundational understanding of the major developments in human history, along with the understanding of various perspectives and approaches to history. Students will learn to interpret and analyze sources, as well as to evaluate their reliability and context. The thrust is not on memorizing dates but rather on developing a broad sense of chronology, along with the ability to draw linkages across time and space. The various aspects of development will be examined. This will also provide for a concrete foundation for the study of the subject at higher levels in the subsequent years.

Most of all, the curriculum is intended to provide a holistic understanding of the subject, encouraging enquiry, research and analysis, while taking the process as an academically fulfilling and enjoyable exercise and helping students develop a love for and an understanding of the subject.

This curriculum is designed to lead the students to explore the physical as well as human aspects of our environment. It is interactive in approach and engages the student in participating as engaged learners who will thus develop an interest in the subject.

The curriculum is designed to give students an overview of the significant developments across the world, and in India, from the early modern period till the 20th Century. Thre course helps students understand their rights and responsibilities and what is expected of them as well-informed and responsible citizens.

The History component not only provides information, but builds upon the knowledge base created in the previous years, helping the students to develop a holistic understanding of the subject as well as to develop the skills of analysis and argument and to inculcate a sense of sequentiality and empathy.

The course offers linguistic opportunities to develop skills in the Hindi Language focusing on reading comprehension, writing, grammar & listening comprehension.

The course seeks to develop our students’ vocabulary, writing techniques & ability to comprehend textual difficulties. It offers the students extensive practice to become proficient in the use of their Native Language thereby celebrating the rich heritage of our motherland, India.

Mathematics taught at Apple Grove School promotes both inquiry and application, helping students to develop problem-solving techniques that transcend the discipline and that are useful in the world outside school.

Grade 6

At this stage, students advance their understanding of statistical thinking and organizing data. Also, students learn about problem solving, exponents, order of operations, basic Algebra and Geometry. By the end of this course students should also be able to perform operations using numbers other than whole numbers. This includes working with decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers. Students will learn to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. They should also understand how to multiply, divide, add, and subtract decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers.

Grade 7

This course is designed to assist students as they make the transition between the concrete subject of arithmetic and more abstract subjects like algebra and geometry. This is accomplished by working with variables, variable expressions, equations, inequalities, and formulas. Subjects covered in earlier math courses such as fractions, ratios, percents, exponents, roots, and probability are studied in further depth for greater mastery.

Grade 8

The course focuses on three key learning objectives: (1) formulating, reasoning & solving expressions & equations (2) grasping the concept of a function and building on that knowledge to use functions to describe quantitative relationships between variables; (3) analyzing 2D and 3D space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.

The course content is exhaustive and offers extensive practice to the students.

Introduction to Computer Applications is designed to familiarize students with computers and their applications. It will also emphasize the use of computers and technology throughout their middle school, high school, college, and future careers. Students will learn fundamental concepts of computer hardware and software and become familiar with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and multimedia presentations. Students will also investigate Internet-based applications, working with email and learning how to browse the web.

This course introduces the students to the field of Dramatics, Theatre & Acting and specifically focuses on Shakespearean Tragedies (Plays).

While developing their understanding of this Art form, it also helps them build confidence in presenting to a live audience, helps them master their facial gestures & become more physically expressive.

The course prepares children for the real world. It improves their verbal communication skills, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. It is also focused at enhancing the soft skills through group discussions, delivering presentations and time management.

Every letter of a language has a shape of its own – one shape in the world and no other. Penmanship is the art or skill of writing by hand with the responsibility to make it each letter perfect.

In the words of Mahatma Gandhi Ji, “I saw that bad handwriting should be regarded as a sign of an imperfect education.”

Among several things, Apple Grove School is one of the very few institutions which introduce English Cursive Handwriting in Grade 1 itself. Also, it lays equal emphasis in the Penmanship of the Hindi Language.

The arts are a universal form of human expression and a unique way of knowing that engage us in effective, imaginative and productive activities.

In order to nurture the artist among children its important for the school to create and environment that encourages children to be curious about themselves, others and the world. It is through such an environment and the opportunities that come along with the same that students become effective learners, inquirers and creative problem-solvers.
